According to the agreement of the Rectors’ Conference of Swiss Universities (CRUS), students at Swiss universities have the option of taking courses at the University of Bern, provided they are enrolled at their home university. Students may a) take individual courses or b) complete an entire minor. Students remain enrolled at their home university and do not pay any fees to the University of Bern.
The following regulations apply to students who wish to complete individual courses or an entire minor in social sciences at the University of Bern:
1.1 Registration at the University of Bern
Registration for the Swiss mobility program takes place at the International Office of the University of Bern. Please note the following points:
- Application deadlines: April 15 for the fall semester; November 15 for the spring semester
- The CRUS application form for exchange students must be completed
- and submitted along with a certificate of enrollment from the home university
- and a confirmation from the home university stating that the coursework completed at the University of Bern will be credited toward the home degree program.
- If you intend to complete an entire minor, you will also need written confirmation from the WISO Faculty (submit a request to the Examination Board along with the required documents).

Students who wish to complete a full minor in social sciences at the University of Bern must, after successfully registering (1.1), follow the curriculum for the Bachelor Sozialwissenschaften.
1.3 Participation in social science courses
In general, all courses offered at the Department of Social Sciences at the bachelor’s level are open to exchange students. Further information on eligibility requirements and registration procedures for individual courses can be found in the University of Bern’s online course catalog.
